Policy Overview
No Refund Policy
Participants registering under general registration may choose to transfer to a charity team. However, no refunds will be issued for such transfers, and these entries will not count towards the charity’s prepaid entries. Individuals wishing to join a charity team after registering under general registration must directly contact the charity to facilitate the transfer. Refunds cannot be processed for such entries. To ensure proper registration, please use the charity’s unique registration link.
Race entry fees and additional purchases are strictly non-refundable and non-transferable under any circumstances. All participants must comply with the event rules as outlined by the Los Angeles Marathon (LAM).
Important Notes
- The Los Angeles Marathon follows the standard industry policy for marathon events.
- Entry fees are non-refundable and non-transferable, as stated in the registration process.
- Registered participants may not sell or transfer their race numbers to another individual. Doing so will result in disqualification for both the original registrant and the individual using the number.
- Entry fees for the current year’s event cannot be deferred or transferred to future events.*
- This policy remains effective regardless of injury, unforeseen emergencies, pregnancy, or any other circumstances.

Event Rules & Regulations
- Participant Age Requirement:
Participants must be at least 16 years old on race day.
- Course Time Limit:
Participants must complete the course within the 6:30:59 (six hours and thirty minutes) net time limit. Early starts are not permitted, and participants who do not complete the course within this limit may not receive an official time, results, or event amenities.
- Entry Rules:
- Entries are non-refundable, non-transferable, and cannot be donated or deferred to future years.
- Official race bibs and timing devices must only be used by the participant to whom they are assigned.
- Prohibited Items:
- Unauthorized vehicles, bicycles, inline skates, skateboards, and animals are not allowed on the course.
- Packet Pickup:
All participants must present a government-issued or school photo ID to collect their Participant Packet during the scheduled Health & Fitness Expo hours.
- Charity Runners:
Charities must ensure that their team members understand and comply with all event rules and charity program requirements before race day.
Athletes with Disabilities (AWD)

The event adheres to guidelines established by USA Track & Field (USATF), the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) for professional wheelchair divisions. For assistance or inquiries, email awd@mccourtfoundation.org.
Covid-19 Policy
Los Angeles Marathon (2021)
In the event of cancellation due to COVID-19, registered participants may defer their entry to the 2022, 2023, or 2024 events. Deferral policies will be communicated at the time of cancellation. Measures to ensure safety may include reducing densities at start lines, finish lines, and on the course, in compliance with prevailing guidelines.
Virtual Race Option:
If the event is canceled, a virtual race may not be offered unless deemed necessary. The Los Angeles Marathon aims to uphold its reputation as a world-class event and deliver the best possible experience for participants.
LA Big 5K (2021)
In case of cancellation, athletes will be automatically transitioned to a virtual event. Event adjustments may be implemented, including staggered starts and course modifications, to adhere to applicable COVID-19 guidelines.
